WHO ARE THE TONICS?

The Binghamtonics are SUNY Binghamton's oldest co-ed a capella group. They sing a variety of genres that can be enjoyed by all their fans. The Binghamtonics like to also refer to themselves as Binghamton's FUNNEST a capella group due to their ability to not only have fun in the group but to show their audience the fun of a capella. Performances can be caught several times throughout the school year, in many residence halls, sports events, club events, charity fund-raisers, talent shows, etc.  But, their biggest shows are the Fall and Spring semester shows which are held at the end of each semester. Also, over the winter break the Binghamtonics try and travel as much as possible, putting on shows at various high schools throughout Long Island and the five boroughs.

But it doesn't end there!  The Tonics also perform in Central Park over the summer along with all of the other members of the Binghamton A capella Association.  They also perform annually at Parents Weekend as well as Alumni Weekend.

WHAT MAKES THE TONICS UNIQUE?

      "They're CRAZY"

The Binghamtonics try their hardest with each performance to show their "wild side".  Besides dancing and sometimes even moshing, the Tonics pride themselves on their insane costumes.  Once in a while at their semester show they have a Costume Contest between each section, which have been described as shocking and scandalous. But overall the Tonics costumes are something that shouldn't be missed.

     "They're FUNNY"

The Binghamtonics were the very first a capella group on the SUNY Binghamton campus to intoduce video skits to their shows.  Playing off the idea of Saturday Night Live, the Tonics break up their set of music with short comedy skits.  Some skits in the past have mocked the Real World, SNL, Trigger Happy TV, Punk'd, MTV Music Videos, Pornos, Travel Tour Videos, and many more!  It is known that these skits can be in some cases quite controversial or offensive because the Tonics enjoy pushing the enevelope.  What no one can argue though is that they are hilarious.Feel free to view some of their skits on YouTube.com, keyword "Binghamtonics".

  • The Semester  Show was AMAZING!

There were two great new arrangements at the show, "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen and "Short Skirt, Long Jacket" by Cake.  Ben received his first solo this semester with the new Cake arrangement.  "Don't Stop Me Now" was arranged as a duet between Jeff and Colleen.  Both arrangements were beautifully melodious and performed with great energy.  Also, the skits were hilarious as the Tonics took on the theme of "Channel Surfing:Part Deux".  Basically, Frank and Corey sat on a couch and watched Tonics-made television.  It came out great!  The performance as a whole was spectactular.  There was an electric vibe throughout Lecture Hall 1 and everyone in the audience could feel it.  There was a also a good Tonics alumni turnout to cheer the Tonics on.  All in all, the semester show deserves 2 "rabbles" up.

Unfortunately, tenor and musical director, Jeff Jacobs graduated this semester.  The Tonics are sad to see him go.  He sang wonderfully at the show with such solos as "Don't Stop Me Now" and "The Kids Aren't Alright" among others.  He received a beautiful sweatshirt with a Tonics logo as a parting gift.  Fortunately though, Jeff is now part of the Tonics Alumni!  Welcome to the club, Jeff!
